What is a blow fly?
Blow flies are an insect family in the order Diptera. They're classic flies: hairy, lightly armored, triangle-shaped, carcass-inclined; in fact, they're called blow flies because in the old days people thought they had the ability to "blow" their eggs onto meat like projectile vomit. I don't know why they would think that, though it's a considerable step up from thinking maggots spontaneously generated. Anyway, there are 19,000 extant species (that we know of) and probably some extinct ones. I can only imagine the sheer size of prehistoric flies and their associated maggots though I try not to think about it.
EXAMPLES
Blue bottle fly (Calliphora vomitoria)
Cluster fly (Pollenia rudis)
New World screwworm fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax)
Blowflies are a rock band from southern New Hampshire comprised of singer/lyricist Lonny Smith, guitarist Nathan Welsh, and bassist/backup singer/evil mastermind May Cassidy (DRUMMER WANTED -- see News & Updates). Drawing from influences such as post-hardcore, prog rock, riot grrrl and grunge, they can be found buzzing around music festivals and local venues (most frequently as attendees and every so often as performers) and on rare occasion attending class at Keene State College.
For some reason unknown to mankind, we decided to record an EP and release it on all streaming platforms. You should stream it or buy it (if you're crazy enough) and let us know just how much you hate it.
Have we told you what's going on recently? Maybe we're playing a show. Maybe we we're in the local news for the accidental death of innocent old lady and are currently being excised from her abdominal cavity. Click the button to find out!
